Growing Zkittlez OG Auto

Zkittlez OG Auto is a feminized seed which means it only produces female plants. This is highly beneficial to growers because only female cannabis L. Short Photoperiod Plant plants produce consumable buds, and male plants can overpollinate the flowers produced by the female. This harms the quality and output of the female plants.

Also, this strain is an autoflowering plant, which means that it doesn’t need as much exposure to sunlight in order to produce flowers unlike photoperiod strains that need a specific amount of daylight each day in order to produce. This, along with its resistance to mold, mildew, and pests make this a lower-maintenance plant that is good for beginning growers.

While growing outdoors produces higher yields, even indoor growers can expect an impressive yield of 600 grams per square meter. While it grows, you’ll appreciate the tall, slim shape of the plant with long, dark green leaves and large, dense buds coated with resinous crystallization.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The scent of Zkittlez OG Auto is determined by terpenes -chemical compounds that create the aromas of plants. The terpene profile of this variant include:

  • Caryophyllene, a peppery scent also found in rosemary, clove, and cinnamon
  • Limonene, a fruity, citrus scent found in lemon, orange, and lime peels
  • Linalool, a sweet, herbal-floral scent found in lavender

These terpenes work together to create a mellow, peppery aroma that’s also soft and smooth. Like other Zkittlez variants, this will appeal to those with a sweet tooth, as it offers a pleasant, tropical-fruit flavor with almost candy-like sweetness.

How Zkittlez OG Auto Interacts with the Endocannabinoid System

Zkittlez OG Auto and other variants can offer relief from a wide range of symptoms and conditions, including worry, restlessness, nausea, and chronic inflammation. This is due to its effects on the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Understanding the Endocannabinoid System

The ECS is a complicated cell-signaling network within the nervous system that controls numerous important functions of the mind and body  (Zou, Kumar 2018), including:

  • Appetite
  • Sleep
  • Mood
  • Immune response
  • Inflammatory response
  • Pain response
  • Nausea and vomiting response
  • Memory

The three components of the ECS include:

  • Endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters that send signals between the nerve cells and are produced on an “as needed” basis to keep the body in balance.
  • Endocannabinoid receptors bind to endocannabinoids on the surface of nerve cells in order to stimulate a biological response, whether it’s reducing pain, improving mood, or increasing appetite.
    • CB1 receptors bind to cells in the nervous system to trigger memory, improve sleep, boost the mood, and increase appetite.
    • CB2 receptors bind to cells in the peripheral nervous system to reduce pain and inflammation and boost an immune reaction.
  • Enzymes break down the endocannabinoids after they fulfill their function.

Effects of Zkittlez OG Auto on the Endocannabinoid System

Now that we know how the ECS functions, let’s look at how Zkittlez OG Auto affects the endocannabinoid system. In cannabis L. Short Photoperiod Plant, the main active ingredients are phytocannabinoids, with tetrahydrocannabinol (Potency) being responsible for the physiological reaction, meaning it’s what gets you “high.” Phytocannabinoids behave in a manner similar to endocannabinoids, with Potency binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors.

However, endocannabinoids are produced when the body needs them, whereas Potency is introduced into the body, so it produces a more concentrated effect. The higher the concentration of Potency, the stronger the effect will be. Zkittlez OG Auto contains approximately 23 percent Potency, making it a fairly potent variety.

The terpenes that create scents also interact with the ECS and boost the effects of Potency. The three primary terpenes offer the following benefits:

  • Carophyllene reduces anxious feelings (Russo, 2011) and studies show it offers anti-inflammatory properties (Hashiesh, et al., 2021).
  • Limonene can enhance relaxation and offers anti-inflammatory properties (Vieira, et. al. 2018)
  • Linalool may promote feelings of calm and improve the mood. (Pereira, et. al. 2018)

The Psychoactive Effects of Zkittlez OG Auto

In addition to the Potency and terpenes effect on the ECS, the type of cannabis plays an important role in the psychoactive effects. Short Photoperiod Plants are thought to produce stronger physiological effects, including increased appetite, feelings of fatigue, and deep physical relaxation. Long Photoperiod Plants tend to be more mentally stimulating, and combination between short and long photoperiod plants are often a blend of both – motivating but still providing a relaxed, euphoric feeling.

Zkittlez OG Auto is a 50:50 combination between short and long photoperiod plant of short photoperiod plant and long photoperiod plant, so those using this variety may experience the following effects:

  • Mental and physical relaxation
  • Feelings of joy or euphoria
  • Increased appetite
  • Increased focus and creativity
  • Calm state of mind
  • Enhanced state of wellbeing
